Back pain is one of the most common reasons people go to the doctor or miss days at work, and it is a leading cause of disability worldwide. The obvious causes are falls and accidents, but prolonged sitting, bad posture and muscle fatigue also has a major impact on our back health.
Treatments will be using combination of techniques, including Amatsu, helping to improve bad posture, Deep Tissue Massage and Orthopedic Massage, focusing on the deeper layers of muscles.
Nerve Pain (such as Sciatica)
Nerve pain: Such as Sciatica*, can be alleviated using Amatsu techniques, with alignment of the pelvis bones, using Deep Tissue Massage in the lower back, buttocks and leg and exercises. It can be longer for some people and multiple treatments will be required.
What is Sciatica?
The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body, running from the bottom of your spine down the back of your hamstring into your calf and ends in your foot. When irritated, the sciatic nerve can cause lower back pain, radiating pain and pins and needles, in the buttocks and down the leg. Sciatic pain may be caused for many reasons, including falls and accidents and disc issues, such as herniated disc, particularly between L4-L5 and L5-S1. Generally pro-longed sitting can increase the symptoms of this debilitating condition.
Sport Related Injury
Sports injuries are common, particularly in contact sports. After all bruising and strains are part of the game. Sports and Orthopedic Massage combined with Structural Integration can help injuries occurred during sport heel faster and reduce them from being reinjured, by making sure all elements of the musculoskeletal systems are working in unison.
In a treatment, I will look at the body as a whole, trying to identify the cause, as well as looking at the issue at hand. For example a reoccurring hamstring injury may be coming from an imbalanced pelvis. Working on the hamstring alone may give some short term relief, but may not deal with the root cause. We will look at prevention, which may mean changing sometime in your lifestyle, work set-up and as well as resting the injury, strengthening the muscles, ligaments surrounding it, which means homework. Sports Massage is not just for athletes as sometimes these time of injuries can occur in life.
Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle therapy that focuses on freeing the ligaments surrounding the organs. This is to encourage normal movement and function of internal organs that can be causing chronic pain or muscular pain in other parts of the body. For obvious reasons visceral restriction may cause digestive issues such as IBS and other health issues, including back pain, shoulder/ hip restriction.
Muscular Pain / Fatigue
Using Neuromuscular Technique (NMT) and both Swedish and Deep Tissue techniques to relieve tension and reduce stress on the body. Whether it is from sports, work or life, everyone experiences muscle pain and muscle fatigue. Muscle fatigue will cause other muscles to be overworked and exhausted, causing pain, tightness and weakness.
Cranial Manipulation is a gentle therapy that involves manipulation of the 8 cranial bones. It is a deeply relaxing and subtle therapy that can help to decrease back and neck pain and improve in the treatment or chronic headaches and migraines.
TMJ syndrome (temporal-mandibular joint pain/ pain where the lower jaw meets the skull). This treatment includes intra-oral techniques as well as working with muscles outside the mouth, to help decrease pain associated with clenching and grinding of teeth.
Orthopedic Massage helps to restore range of motion of joints and strengthen muscles by restoring muscle health and releasing restriction in joints. This is a pain free treatment approach to relieving pain and bring balance and health back to the body. T-shirt and shorts or lose clothing is required.
Repetitive strain injury is a term used to describe overuse of muscles and tendons. Usually, but not always it is a work related disorder suffered by cybernauts, desk bunnies and office staff, affecting the upper limb, such as the forearms and wrist, the wrist and hand and the neck and shoulder.
The first step in treating RSI is identifying the cause, to modify the task or activity. Some companies carry out assessment of the ergonomics of the staff. If you can avail of this, it is a good idea to do so.
Other ways to reduce your risk of RSI are:
Maintaining good posture at the desk.
Taking regular breaks from long or repetitive tasks.
Using a wrist support.
